Network Power & Light To Ship Thin File Server__
Mylex Corporation's Network Power & Light division, formed last May, will
announce AutoNet next week, an embeddable plug-and-play network server
engine. AutoNet connects disk drives directly to a network without the
need for a PC file server.

AutoNet is based on Mylex's NetEngine architecture, designed to enable a
plug-and-play connection of SCSI peripherals directly to a LAN. The
appliance will automatically find and partition any attached disk drives
and set up user spaces and password protection. It also comes with
management and configuration tools that can be accessed by any attached
client device that is equipped with a Java-capable browser such as
Netscape Navigator or Microsoft's Internet Explorer.

The Freemont, Calif., company's product will come with an Intel i960 RISC
processor, 8 Mbytes RAM (expandable to 128 Mbytes), 10/100 Ethernet, 2
Mbytes flash memory, Ultra SCSI SA-2 connections, and Wind River's
VxWorks operating system. It will come standard with an unlimited user
license.

AutoNet will be sold to original equipment manufacturers, systems
integrators, and value-added reseller markets. Pricing for AutoNet will
start at $995. --Jennifer Mateyaschuk
