It's not just that the banks have no competition, it's the Canadian way of "doing business". I hate to say this because I'm counting on the "Canadian economy" to fund my retirement.

Just one example of an American firm "doing business": I recently called "Trader's Library" and ordered 5 or 6 books, charging them to my credit card. Five minutes later, the agent (I hesitate to call her an order taker) called me back--long distance to tell me that three of the books were classed as a "bundle" and so qualified for a 20% discount and thus the charge to my credit card would be... (less than we had discussed earlier).

Can you give me an example of a Canadian firm where:
(a) You would have got the discount &
(b) You would have got the call explaining why the charge was less than you expected?

Yours truly,

Brian Diggle
