That document is monospaced, not proportionally spaced. The "th" superscript was available on monospaced fonts of the time.

You'll also notice not one of the other documents was prepared in proportionally spaced type -- which was typically the case, because people didn't use proportionally spaced typewriters other than for exceptional needs.
