It looks like the anti-Islamist position in Somalia is a minority one. If that's true, we can't win. No, suppose only 10% of the local population supports the Islamists - but the Islamists are just as ready to kill the locals who object as the foreigners. Wouldn't the situation look just the same as if 60% supported the Islamists? So it's hard to tell. I think the trouble is that the last fifteen years have shown that the Somalis don't have any better solution than the Islamic Courts, so they are not geared up to fight them off.
