You are correct in guessing that you have a problem with the network card in the Client. If the card was detected when you installed it and you were prompted for a driver, you may simply require an updated driver. If the card wasn't detected when you installed it, then you may have an IO/IRQ conflict rather than a bad card. The Server icon does indicate that the 600's NIC is loading the driver correctly, the "Unable to browse..." message your getting is standard Evil Empire time wasting mutton. If the 500 NIC was loading correctly, it would appear on it's own Network Neighbourhood browse, even if the network didn't work for some other reason.
