If I were Romney, I would have saved that retort for the debates themselves. Once the implication was on the table, from Obama, that I had lied, I would try to get above the fray and simultaneously accuse Obama of lying with a few telling examples. But by doing it now, it nullifies the later effort and gives the Obama folk something else to prepare for. One of the memes about Romney is that he's a very smart guy. That guy hasn't shown up in the general election campaign yet.
