and the result, in a society historically rather open and accepting of sex (in many varieties) is the lowest rate of teenage pregnancy in Europe, as well as very low STD rates etc. TS, your problem is your evaluation criteria: STDs and pregnancies. You didn't deal with the important question, which is the amount of sex that goes on outside of marriage. And I had to dig down into your second link before I found out that "the average age for their first experience of sexual intercourse is 17, a year older than in Britain." Plus there's no data on what the average age is for the Dutch. Shame on you for missing the whole point. As for these definitions of 'illicit' sex - does that mean I've never had licit sex? One can't go through a discussion of decency and "liciticy" without making a mental comparison between the perceptions of norms that are stated and one's own behavior. I'm on record as being 58 years old and as having been married for 10 of them. Of course, during the rest of my adult life, I spent all of my free time knitting socks. Karen
