Key DSL players are the target -- Ipsilon courts partners
By Terry Sweeney
New Orleans - Is Ipsilon Networks Inc. trying to corner the market on DSL?
The IP switching vendor earlier this month announced a series of partnerships at SUPERCOMM '97, here, designed to extend its high-speed networking technology from the enterprise out across the wide area. Among its new partners are digital subscriber line (DSL) vendors Amati Communications Corp., Copper Mountain Networks Inc., Diamond Lane Communications Corp., FlowPoint Corp. and Nokia.
"It's the first IP dial-tone system," said Larry Blair, marketing vice president at Ipsilon, Sunnyvale, Calif. "Ipsilon believes the dial-up paradigm is broken." By combining IP switching and DSL, the small-office/home-office customer set gets the same throughput and capabilities more typically associated with corporate backbones and their requirement for switched/routed networks.
