Kristen, I am not aware of this CPU strategy, nor of the
IBM deals, except that IBM may produce
a powerbook. Please let us know in detail about the CPU
strategy.
Exponential is doing well so far and we hope to see
Apple machines with the x704 this year at 533mHz.
Of course an improvement in the bus, which is in progress,
will be key to full performance gain.
I would expect the publishing market to be hot about the x704.
As far as the clones, my personal opinion is that
they brought competition, lower prices and many choices
to the Apple market. Also, the Mac OS market share is
on the rise because of them. An equitable way must be
found for Apple not to loose too much money on them,
but to me they seem the life of the Mac platform right now.
If Apple will license the Powerbook, you will see
major gains in market share, where the PowerPC has an
edge against the Pentium (for now), again coming from
lower prices, many more models to choose from etc
thanks and good luck
