Hillarycare: All your babies are belong to us
A very strange story. How do you determine someone will abuse their child via Munchausen's syndrome by proxy before the child is born?
Fran Lyon, 22, of England is about to give birth. According to the World Health Organization, the United Kingdom’s health-care system is 18th in the world, the United States 37th. So she should be happy as a clam, right?
Unfortunately, her “free” health care comes with a price. The London Daily Telegraph reported the government is going to take the baby from her.
If she complains, they will throw her in jail.
Social services’ recommendation that the baby should be taken from Fran Lyon, a 22-year-old charity worker who has five A-levels and a degree in neuroscience, was based in part on a letter from a paediatrician she has never met.
Hexham children’s services, part of Northumberland County Council, said the decision had been made because Miss Lyon was likely to suffer from Munchausen’s Syndrome by proxy, a condition unproven by science in which a mother will make up an illness in her child, or harm it, to draw attention to herself.
Under the plan, a doctor will hand the newborn to a social worker, provided there are no medical complications. Social services’ request for an emergency protection order — these are usually granted — will be heard in secret in the family court at Hexham magistrates on the same day.
From then on, anyone discussing the case, including Miss Lyon, will be deemed to be in contempt of the court.
Hi, we’re from the government and we know what’s best for you. It made YouTube delete a video of the “hearing” she was given. Said Miss Lyon:
“The paediatrician has never met me. He is not a psychiatrist and cannot possibly make assertions about my current or future mental health. Yet his letter was the only one considered in the case conference on August 16 which lasted just 10 minutes.”
So let’s review: She is going to have a baby. The bureaucracy decided to take the baby away. Her only hope is to fight in a court — run by the very government she would be suing. If that Orwellian nightmare is the model for America, no thanks.
Of course, America has the best health system in the world. We pay for it. Unlike all these cheapskate countries who pat themselves on the back for skimping on health.
I will believe France is better than the United States when I millionaires flying to Paris for heart surgery and the like. WHO measured health insurance, relyying heavily on actuarial tables (life expectancy) rather than the quality of care. Said WHO Director-General Dr. Gro Harlem Brundtland: “The main message from this report is that the health and well-being of people around the world depend critically on the performance of the health systems that serve them. Yet there is wide variation in performance, even among countries with similar levels of income and health expenditure. It is essential for decision- makers to understand the underlying reasons so that system performance, and hence the health of populations, can be improved.”
France was ranked No. 1. It lost 14,802 citizens in the heat wave of August 2003. Emergency rooms were overloaded. Giving doctors 35-hour weeks and allowing them to take August off has a steep price. But hey, they died knowing their health care system is No. 1 in the world — when everyone is off vacation.
And “free” childbirth means your baby becomes a ward of the state. My advice to Miss Lyon is seek asylum in the United States. It is where Canada sends its pregnant mums when they are having quadruplets because it lacks neonatal beds. Gotta “save” money somewhere.
