Lots of lightening up there and if it is not raining the forest will burn for a long time and the fires are just huge beyond imagination. It is mostly black spruce, alder and birch. The spruce burns hot fast. Spruce actually has little very dry sprouts that act as kindling and the alder and birch burn for a long time as they are so hard. Look at how big the fires were in russia this year.
