re: ["Ron Paul has been a very interesting figure in Texas politics for some years. He is really a libertarian, rather than a conservative Republican. My own opinion, FWIW, is that his fears are exaggerated"]

...I don't know if his fears are truly "exaggerated"... or perhaps if they merely lie at the far end of the way financial cycles tend to over-shoot from one extreme to another ?

We truly have entered into unchartered waters in the derivatives arena, with the depth & breadth of the debt implosion and combine that with our rapidly escalating account deficit; the impact on global financial markets that any further significant acts of Terrorism will impart... and I don't think Mr. Paul is in the upper deck... maybe in the outfield (of thinking); but definitely still in the park... and not even in the nose-bleed seats any longer imho.

2 years ago; who would think that WCOM & Enron would fail... we're not talking white-board pseudo internet.bombs with their entire survial resting on the performance of a sock-puppet in a couple of 30 sec spot commercials on the Super Bowl... but, real business's... with real assets.

We're seeing Merrill, JPM and even Citi in precarious spots here... and the tech-wreck may only be at half-time... Lucent and even Cisco & Motorola may be the "whodathunkit" stories we'll be talking about a year from now...

It's hard to predict, or have confidence in a 70+ year old ship captain trying to navigate thru unchartered waters...
