I vaguely remember a statistic that pitted the combined market cap of the gold miners vs. some tech company maybe Microsoft. Though maybe too simplistic, that type of comparison really drives home a point. IE would you rather own the vast majority of the worlds known unmined gold and the means to extract it or Microsoft.
