3Com Corp. could lead communications-equipment shares higher
tomorrow. The No. 2 maker of networking equipment said after the
market closed that fiscal fourth-quarter profit rose 34 percent
and beat estimates as the company shifted focus to new products
and away from phone-based modems.

3Com posted profit from operations of 24 cents a share,
beating by a penny the average estimate from analysts polled by
First Call. Shares rose 9/16 to 31 1/
