SBC ramps up, WSTL gets the goods from both SBC and Earthlink.
From DSL Prime:
SBC is catching up
Queue drops to 40,000
Michael Coe was very proud that installations, hitting 4K per day, have whittled away at the six week, hundred thousand backlog of the prior quarter. That means they only took 140,000 net orders (198K increase in subs minus 60K backlog reduction), after being swamped when they dropped the price to $39.95. They need to double that order rate by October to reach the yearend million, but we believe strategic marketing and selective price promotions should do the trick. We're still in the bubble of more demand than can be filled, but thousands of smart, hardworking folks are working to make installs smoother and catch up with demand at today's prices. Not to worry, though - just match Bell Canada's $28 (US) price and AOL's 23 million customers will abandon the $22/month service. (One reason why Earthlink is converting their 4 million as fast as DSL capacity is available.) |
