Which adapter do you have ? I'll guess the Dlink.
According to your configuration tab info, it would appear that you have 2 adapters, a 3Com and a Dlink, both are 10/100's and only one should be there. If you have had another adapter in the machine previously you will have two drivers. We will go through your list point by point :
Client for Microsoft Networks : You want this.
Client for NetWare Networks : You can delete this unless you need to access a Novell Network
3Com Fast EtherLink XL 10/100Mb TX Ethernet NIC (3C905B-TX)
D-Link DFE-538TX 10/100 Adapter
Only one of these adapters is needed, the one you actually have, delete the other.
Dial-Up Adapter You need this to support dial up networking, if you are going to drop dialup for DSL, this could go as well.
This section below deals with bound protocols on your adapters. Any binding referring to the adapter you don't have can be deleted, even TCP/IP.
IPX/SPX-compatible Protocol--3Com Fast EtherLink XL 10/100Mb TX Ethernet NIC (3C905B-TX)
IPX/SPX-compatible Protocol--D-Link DFE-538TX 10/100 Adapter
IPX/SPX-compatible Protocol--Dial-Up Adapter
If you are going to access a Netware Network you will require this binding, otherwise you can delete all IPX/SPX bindings.
NetBEUI--3Com Fast EtherLink XL 10/100Mb TX Ethernet NIC (3C905B-TX)
NetBEUI--D-Link DFE-538TX 10/100 Adapter
NetBEUI--Dial-Up Adapter
You can delete any binding to Netbeui as well, this is a useful protocol internally, very fast, but it is not routable and you don't want to deal with it.
TCP/IP--3Com Fast EtherLink XL 10/100Mb TX Ethernet NIC (3C905B-TX)
TCP/IP--D-Link DFE-538TX 10/100 Adapter
TCP/IP---Dial-Up Adapter
These lines show that TCP/IP is bound to all three adapters. If you need to dial in, even occasionally, leave the Dialup Adapter binding, remove the line that is referring to the binding on the adapter you don't have.
File and printer sharing for Microsoft Networks Needed
So when you are all done, your config tab should have something like this
Client for Microsoft Networks
D-Link DFE-538TX 10/100 Adapter
Dial-Up Adapter
TCP/IP--D-Link DFE-538TX 10/100 Adapter
TCP/IP---Dial-Up Adapter
File and printer sharing for Microsoft Networks
That should be all you need to get your network up.

Edit Note : You must attend to machine security in a regular fashion if you are running a Microsoft Client, and File and Print Sharing is loaded, especially over a TCP/IP enabled machine. A NAT or a firewall would be in order (Both would be better) |
