Mark,
To some extent , I see what you are saying about wondering about what God must be like. You know, I could go out in the desert and sit on a rock and just wwoooonnnnddddeeeerrrrrr, a very long time about what God is like.
Or I can pick up the collection of books and letters that tells me about Him. Folks actually sell that thing. In fact it is the most sold book ever....in the world..... I wonder why.
Why is it when God, Who loves us so much so that He died for us, says something is so in His word, man has to cry out "dictator dictator"? I do not understand that. Do you go through stop signs at 70 miles an hour, saying I am man hear me roar?? You may for awhile but what will eventually happen? Do you tell your boss at work to get out of his office , cause you want it, there is no logical reason for you not to have it? You might, but I figure you would also be looking for a new job that day.
I know those are silly and little examples, but to tell God He cannot be angry or jealous is just as silly. Have you ever looked to see why our God may have ever been angry and /or jealous?
Would you look at a couple??
Exodus 34:14 Do not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.
Why would He say that, you think? The very next verses tell us.
15 "Be careful not to make a treaty with those who live in the land; for when they prostitute themselves to their gods and sacrifice to them, they will invite you and you will eat their sacrifices. 16 And when you choose some of their daughters as wives for your sons and those daughters prostitute themselves to their gods, they will lead your sons to do the same.
Oh so the reason is not only would they be entangled but also their sons??? So NOW we got you running a stop sign at 70 mph with your SON in the car????? What now??? Does this make sense?
(Heb 3:7-14 NIV) So, as the Holy Spirit says: "Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion, during the time of testing in the desert, where your fathers tested and tried me and for forty years saw what I did. That is why I was angry with that generation, and I said, 'Their hearts are always going astray, and they have not known my ways.' So I declared on oath in my anger, 'They shall never enter my rest.'" See to it, brothers, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness. We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly till the end the confidence we had at first.
Why anger??? BECAUSE their hearts were not with God, and they did not know His ways even with all He did for them (delivered from Egypt)Same now with Christ. Without Him it is impossible to enter His rest.
Just two small examples.
God Bless dan
