Gregg,

I was also wondering whether the Q800 isn't dropping more calls than a QCP dual mode phone because of spotty digital coverage, hoping that in fact the problem had nothing to do with the internal antenna. It would be a shame IMO to sacrifice performance in any meaningful way for the sake of this hidden antenna.

As for Fridays press release I'm starting to think that there's a pretty good chance your interpretation is essentially correct, although to declare victory just might be a bit premature. Clark posted something on the Nokia thread, the essence of which :

"Unlike Gregg I do not view the press release as a sign of the death of W-CDMA. And, I concede that this group may put pressure on CDMA-2000, but as for the actual splitting there are really only two ways to interpret it: either it is an actual schism in the Ericsson camp, or it is a conspiracy concocted with Ericsson to make an apparently neutral camp which is really pro-W-CDMA. Either way the Ericsson camp is worried"

I guess I've come to the conclusion that for all of these operators to come out and make a statement ( a statement which was released with some fanfare in that we were told it would be coming and that it would be significant) that was simply a ruse to confuse and distract would amount to a level of conspiracy that I don't believe exists.
If in fact there is such a conspiracy, and indeed no substantive movement towards convergence, this press release will ultimately come to be viewed as the "proof" of said conspiracy and therefore a very aggressive move. I find it hard to believe that these companies would be looking to throw gasoline on the fire, so my hat's off to you..
