Yes, dressing for the occasion is important.

Rather than a scarf such as the Muslim women wear-----a broad brimmed hat with a scarf tied around the hat and flowing slightly would have shown the respect for the occasion.

There is something called a woman's tuxedo that takes a politician anywhere-------mid-calf black or deep blue skirt with room to walk and move easily and a jacket with a satin label-----add a silk top to finish the effect.

Your last statement says it all--------showing respect and staying home.
