I have travelled over large parts of the globe, and mass transportation is more limited here in the USA than in many other "advanced" countries. This is a result of big $ influence. I respectfully disagree. IMO, it's more a result of three other things: (1) enormous geographic spread, (2) low population density per sq. mi., and (3) America's obsession with the automobile as a symbol of personal freedom.
