I was just thinking about this (managing expectations downward). Ballmer's a college guy. If MSFT said "we may not hit the numbers next quarter" and everyone says to themselves "oh, right (wink wink)". What's the MSFT president to do? He would be stupid to say "MSFT is overvalued". He's got a bazillion dollar market cap that is going to start flying into the competition's direction, so he says "The whole industry is overvalued" in order to preclude huge money flow into that competition. -JCJ
