Large Firms to Enter Medical-Equipment Mart (Korea Herald)
Large companies are advancing into the medical-equipment market, a sector traditionally
dominated by small- and medium-size firms. Samsung Corp. and STC Corp. have
already entered the sector, while LG Industrial Systems Co., Daewoo Corp., Byucksan
Corp. and Korea's Fuji Photo Film Co. have recently begun market research, said
industry sources and officials from the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
LG Industrial Systems Co. is in the process of screening items for production, while LG
EDS Systems Co. is preparing to start a video-medical equipment business, the sources
said. Byucksan Corp. and Daewoo Corp. are now conducting market research, with an
eye on developing X-ray equipment. Daewoo, which failed to conclude a contract with
Toshiba on the sale of the Japanese company's products in the domestic market last
year, is reportedly developing X-ray equipment on its own.
