Fujitsu joins budding DSL market

"Fujitsu Network Communications, a key asynchronous transfer mode and Sonet equipment supplier, [...] partnering with Orckit Communications. The companies have formed an exclusive relationship to integrate Orckit's DSL end user modems and D-SLAM technology into Fujitsu's FACTR Sonet access and transport system for end-to-end solutions.

"For Fujitsu, the best fit in attacking the DSL market was a comprehensive relationship with Orckit," said Faraj Aalaei, director of access products at Fujitsu. "They have the breadth of knowledge necessary to play in the DSL market." He cited Orckit's use of both discrete multitone and quadrature amplitude phase modulation schemes, as well as its high bit rate DSL (HDSL) and very high bit rate DSL (VDSL) technologies as attractive strengths."
