I am acquainted with Thomas Cole, pretty good for his time, although none of them were up to European standards. My father- in- law's family was from Pennsylvania and Ohio, many of them Quakers; my mother- in- law's family early settled in Missouri, and were Southern in loyalty. All came in or just after colonial times.
My English great- great- grandparents, the first over, came about the 1880s, and were tenant farmers near the Anacostia River, where Bolling AFB now is. My Italian great- grandparents came from the Naples area, and it was my grandfather, in the Army, who migrated to Washington. My Latvian Jewish great- grandparents all came from the Riga area, although different villages. They settled in Philadelphia, and to this day, most of my extended family is between Wilmington and the Poconos. My grandparents came down to Washington to seek their fortune. My parents met at Eastern High School, which you may remember.........
I am drawing a blank on the Oakes scandal, I am afraid..... |
