While I believe that Obama has the necessary qualifications and fresh ideas to make him a good president of the USA, I have some niggling doubts about his chances of success this time around. Rightly or wrongly, I believe the USA is not yet ready for a man of colour to be its next president.
I don't like saying this but there is a chance that some white trash/kook might play foul against Obama (that is, eliminate him "accidentally") should Obama come on very strong in the opinion polls. By the way, it was for fear of an "accident" that Colin Powell was dissuaded by his wife from running for VP some time in the 1980s.
One more thing to consider: The Israel Lobby (AIPAC) which has been dominating US politics behind the scenes has by now achieved "Kingmaker" status. It has become abundantly clear to many a politician in both Houses that he/she will not succeed without the blessings/help of AIPAC. I kid U not!
And AIPAC will, of course, favour only those candidates who have avowed "staying the course" a la Bush, or have promised unconditional US support for ensuing the safety of Israel. Some of the candidates who have been courting AIPAC and are/(will be) getting its support include McCain, Rudy Giuliani, Hillary Clinton, and John Edwards.
I find recent US politics utterly disgusting and nauseating in view of the chokehold that AIPAC exerts on the US Administration forcing the US to place the interests of Israel ahead of those of America and the American people. It is not an exaggeration to say that Americans have become Israel's tax slaves!!! Oh, how pathetic it is that one small group could make top US politicians dance like poodles to its tune!!! Like it or not, it seems that the world's sole superpower, the mighty USA, is just a joke!!!
