One of the things we lose as the big media outlets work ever deeper into trouble is a shared view of the news. As you no doubt know, one of the more serious criticism of the kind of "roll your own news" many of us get now, via the internet, is that balkanization such that ideological differences are reinforced.

Gonna be interesting to see how this all works out. But I suspect the old line that we are not at the end of the beginning but at the beginning of the beginning is as true here as elsewhere.
