Just a superb game by the Broncos. It proved once more that Shanahan is master of preparation, as pointed out here - Message 7414864
TDavis was more or less shut down with 65 yds rushing in first half and 37 yds rushing in second half, and added 50 yds in pass receiving, for a total of 152 yds offense. Even Sharpe was shut down with 26 yds. Instead, that old slow poke, can't run no more, John Elway passed for 336 yds. This is great satisfaction and found it very appropriate to see Superbowl XXXIII MVP's arm came alive. This is the same arm that, many years ago, was restrained (by then Bronco Reeves) from making brilliant passing schemes. With Shanahan, the offense is just too much - too many weapons and brilliant plays. Or just brilliant offensive game plan and preparation, a total team effort.
I was totally dumbfounded by Atlanta's ineptness. As others have pointed out, Dan Reeves never had a team this good, with balanced offense and second rated defense (but doesn't have any Monica). It was really amazing that there was no question on the game's outcome by middle third quarter, and definitely by start of 4th qtr. I thought it would be closer, a 5 to 6 pts difference. Instead, it ended up a 15 pts difference and it should have been worse. It just shows Mike Shanahan is truly a genius and second to none. Message 7337055 Message 7414864
Much credit goes to the Broncos line coach and defensive coordinator. Chandler looked shaken and threw some lousy passes. By mid third qtr, I was expecting Denver interceptions and there were three. A Broncos total team effort. There were just enough brilliant defensive schemes to shut down Atl offense at a few opportune times. |
