[Alcatel - Cisco strategic partnership]

Cisco & Alcatel held a conference call this morning, 6/23/97, and I typed notes as I listened. I've tried to post my transcript but it won't take. I'll try again later. To say I'm frustrated is a gross understatement. I also have a call in to RC and will post when he gets back.

John Chambers and Bob Michelay (?) from Cisco and Jean-Paul Chapon from Alcatel led the call.

There are many points worth emphasizing. I'll quote two:

"Today we recognize one single technology isn't going to do it. . . this will require expertise from multiple vendors."

[Re: partners and other vendors:] John: "ALA is one of first. Won't list others. There will be steady stream of others."

Like the GTE announcements a month ago, this is another validation of the importance of ADSL. There will be many vendors involved and to have ANSI-standard DMT publically heralded by Cisco is one more milestone. As usual, the Street wants Ding Dongs now in place of a seven-course Paul Bocuse later.

Ah, well, I should be used to it by now.

Cheers!

Pat
