So clouds can offset warming? Don't tell the climate modelers that. It was cool in the Arctic during May, June, July, and August...not just August. This cold air bottled up all summer and hit the eastern United States in August, which amplified the Rossy wave pattern, leading to the exacerbated heat wave out west. This cold air trough is what made Harvey a disaster. If there was no cold air trough, Harvey would have moved inland and would've been just another run-of-the-mill hurricane.
