Friend,

Attorney General Jeff Sessions is warning colleges that he is starting to take an interest in the failure of campuses to prevent leftwing thugs from using the threat of violence to prevent conservatives from exercising free speech.

Frankly, it’s about time the Justice Department laid down the law on this issue. We live in a nation of laws, not a mobocracy. There is a long history of the DOJ prosecuting those who would conspire to prevent others from exercising their Constitutional rights. In the past, they have prosecuted fascists and racists who target minorities, and there is no reason that a conspiracy of leftist thugs should escape justice just because they claim to be “anti-fascist” while behaving like fascists.

And in case you think I’m just a partisan overstating the case, here in part is 18 U.S. Code 241, defining the federal offense known as “Conspiracy Against Rights”:

“If two or more persons conspire to injure, oppress, threaten, or intimidate any person in any State, Territory, Commonwealth, Possession, or District in the free exercise or enjoyment of any right or privilege secured to him by the Constitution or laws of the United States, or because of his having so exercised the same; or if two or more persons go in disguise on the highway, or on the premises of another, with intent to prevent or hinder his free exercise or enjoyment of any right or privilege so secured, they shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both…”

Sound like anyone we know?

Sincerely,

Mike Huckabee
