Zi Corporation secures seventh Korean contract
Calgary, AB (February 15, 2001) - Zi Corporation (NASDAQ: ZICA) (TSE: ZIC) has licensed its eZiText(tm) solution to Telson Information and Communications Co., Ltd. for use in both GSM and CDMA platforms. Telson currently ranks third in terms of Korean handset production, with the capacity to produce 400,000 wireless handsets per month.
"eZiText(tm) is a key element in our product differentiation and export strategy," said C.S. Lee, senior managing director, Telson. "Telson's goal for 2001 is to export more than two million handsets in total, supplying CDMA handsets to Latin America and China and GSM handsets to China and Europe."
eZiText(tm) will initially be implemented in English, Spanish, Portuguese and Chinese, with other languages to follow. Telson has already secured orders for GSM handsets, which will be sold in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and other Southeast Asian countries. Telson has also arranged an export agreement to distribute Telson handsets in France, Spain and Italy.
"Zi now has agreements with Telson and LG Electronics, representing two of the three top Korean manufacturers, as well as agreements with Wide Telecom, Hutel, Standard Telecom, Sewon and GTRAN," says Gordon Tsang, regional sales manager, Zi Corporation. Founded in 1992, Telson is one of Korea's leading suppliers of pagers and wireless handsets. Since 1997, the company has focused on developing CDMA products. Telson has supplied devices to markets in Korea, the United States and Latin America, totaling 1.7 million units in 2000. Telson's net sales for 2000 was over US$308 million. |
