Elroy,

But the current situation in Iraq (establish a democratic state where there appears to be minimal local popular support for the idea) is failing. Will George tell the American people the truth, and state something along the lines of "The US military will remain in Iraq for the next 30 years fighting a guerilla war with the local people, if that's what it takes to stabilize their country."

THe US has stayed in Germany, Japan and Korea for more than 30 years, and it was a resounding success. Since the US went in, we have an obligation to give democracy a chance.

When considering a pullout, I think the consequences of leaving the entire region to the likes of Taliban to take over should be seriously considered, and weighed against the cost of staying.
