They almost had Polio under control in Africa after a 16 year effort, yet one area in northern Nigeria saw vaccinations (costing only pennies) suspended for almost a year in 2003/04 due to interference from the local "mullahs" who spread the rumor the vaccines were a global plot to sterilize Muslims , by the infidel west: washingtonpost.com So unfortunate as the virus has now resurfaced in almost 16 countries, where it had been mostly defeated . The polio virus strains that resurfaced in the surrounding countries could all be genetically tagged back to that northern Nigerian region that had stopped the immunization due to fundamentalist religious reasons . One case where "Allah" should not be praised ...
