canoe.ca - you likely saw this one. Briefly (no time just now) - we loathe and fear the banks for their relative size and power, yet that size and power derives from government edict. Go figure. A good library down there in the States should have a four-volume set of "The Canadian Encyclopaedia" by Hurtig Publishers, 1988. The entry under "Banks" gives the commie pinko interventionist liberal (+Liberal) mindset on banks in Canadian history [Mel Hurtig even started up his own "National" party because the Liberal party wasn't interventionist enough for him -g-]. Also, each bank has its own entry, giving an overall history, some are quite colourful.
