Greg,
That's what they did is develop a layer to isolate the copper from the
rest of the chip. This layer cost money and DRAM manufacturers are
running such tight margins that it may not be cost effective.
Also IBM is stating multi metal layer chips (6-7). Most DRAM
manufacturers use no more than 3 metal layers. Chipworks lists
one of Micron's 16Mbit DRAMs as using 1 metal layer. Why add more
layers to the chip than needed...
