Steve - Thanks for your good reply -
Interesting it is "2001," as these days I often feel I'm in a cyberspace odessy! Just as a wrap to this in case anyone else is wondering, too: Re: No. 1: Labelling of transactions, in the transactions I referenced [No. 2000], wouldn't the closing trans. be "Buy to CLOSE" [vs. open] and the separate buy be "Buy to OPEN" ? Thanks for distinction betw. clerical and substantive. Re: No.2: I really appreciate what you wrote - The point where we are having trouble tracking is betw. clearing firm -> brokerage &/or brokerage -> specific accts. where the brokerage is handling many accts. w/same option contracts on which the stock shares are being exercised. If you are successful in getting a "straight answer" from your clearing dept., it would be very much appreciated.
On a broader level, we appear to be echoing the feeling of the others on this thread - what you have started here is a very valuable forum for rectifying trader/broker misunderstandings and education, which makes it a better system for all. Thanks.
