Virginia passed another law---in either the late 1980's or the 1990's that mentally ill patients must receive the same physical medical treatment as non-mentally ill patients.

When the mentally-ill become physically ill they are moved from the psych wards to to the main part of the hospital for treatment by the physical medicine doctors.

Note: If you are a patient in the hospital for a non-mental problem, you can end up with dangerous mental patients being on the same floor with security guards posted to control the mental patients.

The head nurse of a hospital, I will leave unnamed, said it had made the nurses task almost impossible and the lives of people in the hospital needing quiet and peace as they recover in jeopardy.
