[Amati chat]

Robert --

You are so right.
I have to admit today hasn't been one of my better ones. Amazing how the company keeps on running when I'm sitting on the sidelines thinking the sky has fallen. When RC called late this afternoon, I admitted I was feeling a bit like Mrs. Lincoln --- "Other than that. . . how'd you like the play???" He'd been in meetings all day and was tired but still in great spirits. You mean I did all that worrying for nothing???? Yep. :)

First, Cisco: nothing's changed from what it's been all along --- negotiations are proceeding and both companies look forward to working together. (No guarantees, yet, mind you.) Cisco will offer more than one ADSL solution and will remain agnostic as to company and line code. They'll offer an Alcatel solution; they'll offer an Amati solution; if someone knocks on their door demanding an Aware solution, they'll offer that, too. According to Cisco, the primary emphasis of the press release should have been switching and routing and the wording of the ADSL portion shouldn't have been as exclusive as it sounded. They want to promote tag switching and Alcatel wants to promote ATM. If you think about it, it makes sense. Cisco wants to sell complete solutions to all its customers. No matter who comes to their door, they want to be able to reach into their ADSL bag and offer whatever they want. They have no exclusive ADSL agreements and don't intend to.

Playing the devil's advocate, I asked why Cisco even put the ADSL portion in the alliance, and I was told, Why not? They have nothing to lose. Good point. And I don't suppose John Chambers had Amati's stock in mind when the release went out.

As for Alcatel and its chip, their second gen is not out but when it is, it most likely will be competitive. Will they take away everyone's business? Considering the fact Amati has more business than they can handle --- and are turning away customers already --- I highly doubt it.

Which leads me to GTE. Everything on that front is moving along well. They've contacted Amati several times recently and each time their comments were positive.

In regards to the stock, where do we go from here? I don't know how to reverse the damage already done --- I've said over and over I have no understanding of the market --- so I just hope the truth gets out and people start buying the stock to take it back up. I've lost patience with the way unscrupulous traders have played with it. They're like vultures. They see a press release they can twist, so they make a few phone calls, post a few messages, use a few toads, and the rest is gravey.

I've got more to say, but will save it for email.

And in case someone's forgotten, all this is my own opinion.

Cheers!

Pat
