TP, I've noticed how people often attribute extreme intelligence to their opponents, or their designated nemesis, or whomever they regard as "evil." That includes Osama, Saddam (before the first Gulf War), Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Karl Rove, etc.

Such a desire to paint their enemies as overly clever and intelligent leads to kooky conspiracy theories. The truth is often less dramatic, but I guess it's easier to believe the conspiracy theory than it is to let go of the "us-vs-them" dogma. Quite ironic, considering that the side currently being affected by such dogma likes to consider themselves above such "nonsense." ;-)
