walkingshadow, I realize there is a right way, a wrong way, and the Army way. A salesman, once in our employ, had a fourth option. There was also "Patton's way". He was a quartermaster major, and had to keep 3 sets of books. One for the Army, one for Patton, and one that was correct.
Perhaps I am confusing the final raid on Dresden with a previous one on the same city. Maybe even a different city, but I would still believe my uncle before giving any credence to an author, journalist, or uninvolved historian.
I don't even know what started this discussion because I do not participate on the threads as often as I once did, and the Bush thread has such a large volume of posts, that I am not about to read all of them. At any rate, the a fire bombing of Dresden is not as devastating as the A bombings of Hiroshima, and Nagasaki. In all instances, it hastened the end of the war, and is OK with me. |
