You are almost correct - Another small pedestal would be placed adjacent the "green box" and the fiber multiplexing would take place in that new box and twisted pairs carrying VDSL would be "patched" over to the existing SAI box where they would be connected to the pairs running to the home. Existing POTS would be left on the pairs such that the new VDSL delivered service does not interfere with the existing POTS service as is the case for ADSL. This means that one pair carries both the existing telephone service as well as the new broadband service.
