I have a tax question. When you sell a covered call, isn't the premium received always a short term gain?

The calls I held were assigned and the underlying stock was sold at a profit. My brokerage statement has lumped the profit from the stock with the call premium. All of which is shown as a long term cap gain.

I know this issue can get complex, but my question is simply put: Is the premium received when you sell short a call, always a short term cap gain?

Thanks, Shawn.
