Oops THE AGITATOR BLOG Defenders of pervasive SWAT team deployments often (incorrectly) claim that criminals are increasingly armed with higher powered weaponry. Hence, the need to respond with even higher powered weapons and tactics.
Unfortunately, stories like this one--which aren't all that uncommon--don't do much to help their cause:
Members of the SWAT team based in Raleigh, N.C., were eating at Interstate Bar-B-Que, 2265 S. Third, about 3:30 p.m. Monday when they realized their van had been broken into, said Lt. Jerry Gwyn of Memphis felony response.
Taken were three machine guns, two semi-automatic handguns, and two 12-gauge shot guns, Gwyn said.
Related, see this report from the St. Petersburg Times a few years ago. Regular readers won't find anything new. But sometimes seeing this same song and dance presented in a new way can shock the system again. Which I find is necessary. Otherwise, you begin to grow weary with outrage fatigue.
