To BadKarma; "how you folks can justify the slaughter"
-Do I have to justify history? I mean, really. In your mind I'm guessing that "nothing really dies"... well this is perfect justification for your inability to accept reality. The faith answer is another way the masses deal with the horror that happens. Ever ask a Neo-natzi whether Hitler was religiously justified and he'll tell you YES! Why? The mind has justified the horror that happens - throughout ALL history. So no, I don't ask you to take it on faith... you already have if you believe ANY god exists.
-On Jesus just being a man? Christianity being nothing new: hmm imagine that, a continuation or fulfillment of already accepted truth. A fulfillment that is even mentioned in the "original". Barring your acceptance of this, what do you think of the Judaic religion? If you don't think this(OT) is anything other than Jewish dribble, we probably don't have any common ground.
As far as 16 Major religions: which ones? I tend to group Christianity into one, regardless of sect... I'm just curious because I don't know that many MAJOR religions (14 or so, but not 16).
so your two points; 1. repetition does not EXCLUDE the possibility that something exists. Just because 16 people say they are the messiah doesn't mean one of them is NOT the messiah.
2. what kind of historians were around at the time of Jesus... commissioned historians. IE. they wrote about what the king wanted them to write about because they were paid to say 'Augustus Ceasar was sorry for stabbing Julious Ceasar in the back, please people, calm down, he's a good guy... or the more likely post Christ - Coligula is a rightious dude, peace and prosperity(and sex) to everyone, except the Christians; we'll watch the lions eat them and it'll be fun'
the fact than one historian actually did (besides the religious 'apparently non historian' writers) write about him makes him at least as notable as a king... which would be fine if he WAS/IS ONE.
