Ericsson solution combines services over GSM and NMT mobile networks

Ericsson is the first vendor to deliver a solution that combines GSM and NMT
mobile networks. A solution delivered to operator Multiregional Transit
Telecom (MTT) in Russia supports GSM and NMT services in the same network
nodes.

The new solution also enables operators to combine services on GSM and TACS
networks (Total Access Communication System). As the new Combined Gateway
(CGW) exchange solution bridges several technologies and networks, this can
further improve an operators' business in a competitive environment.

A main benefit for network operators is that they can combine services and
equipment for different mobile networks. This kind of interconnection
increases business opportunities available. The new solution also further
enables smooth and cost efficient integration of technologies in an
incremental way.

"By combining NMT and GSM traffic in the same exchange operators will for
example reduce transmission costs, improve trunking efficiency as well as
provide Number Portability between networks," says Petter L”kke, Key Account
Manager for MTT in Moscow, Ericsson Radio Systems.

Ericsson's 100,000 employees are active in more than 130 countries. Their
combined expertise in fixed and mobile networks, mobile phones and infocom
systems makes Ericsson a world-leading supplier in telecommunications.
