no one has mentioned it, but the US is in an enviable position because they can now, if the two parties can control their rampant hatred, look at other systems and see where the problems lie, and perhaps build a better one for the US. The Canadian system is in trouble because of a lack of checks and balances, because of Government management and because of an enormous bureaucracy. They stopped training as many Doctors and nurses in the 1980's when they "thought" they had too many, and now there are government created shortages of Doctors and nurses. also they tend to limit the amount a Doctor can earn, so that many operations there is the capacity to do more, but the Doctors don't operate for 3 months a year, or whenever they reach their quota.
patients have No Idea what their treatments costs, so if a baby has colic, you take it to the hospital, so instead of a daytime doctors visit it becomes an expensive emergency visit, and because doctors are in short supply for many people the emergency department is their only source of care. Now we have doctors charging $100. fee to stay on their list of patients. Only people on welfare or with Drug Plans get free medications although seniors get some drugs for free. But the dispensing fee from 6 to 10 dollars has to be paid for each prescription. |
