Telecom's Spot dies

Publication date: 2000-09-01

Spot, the jack russell terrier who starred in more than 40 Telecom advertisements, has died aged 13 at his Sydney home. Jane Austin, Telecom's corporate communications general manager, said Spot had "that special blend of charisma, skill and professionalism that made him a star". Spot became such a New Zealand icon that he even featured in a poll as a preferred prime minister. "Spot was a pro who could learn a new trick in half-an-hour, never had a day sick, never needed a stand-in and never let us down," said Ms Austin. Telecom will make a donation to the SPCA in Spot's memory.
