U.N. Official: FNC is One of Our "Loudest Detractors"

U.N. official Mark Malloch Brown lashed out at Fox News yesterday:

<<< In a highly unusual instance of a United Nations official singling out an individual country for criticism, Mr. Malloch Brown said that although the United States was constructively engaged with the United Nations in many areas, the American public was shielded from knowledge of that by Washington's tolerance of what he called "too much unchecked U.N.-bashing and stereotyping."

"Much of the public discourse that reaches the U.S. heartland has been largely abandoned to its loudest detractors such as Rush Limbaugh and Fox News," he said. >>>

But as 'Newser points out, here's Malloch Brown responding to a question about Fox's coverage last year:

<<< Q: And another question is: I detected a slightly sarcastic reference to my colleague here in front. Do you think that some of the news media have politicized this? Do you think Fox News has been waging a political campaign against the United Nations?

Mr. Malloch Brown : No, let me be clear. You know, this report reflects that what Fox News and many others have said, which was that there were failings in this programme, is correct. >>>

So last year, Fox News was correctly identifying U.N. failings. This year, it's engaged in "unchecked U.N.-bashing and stereotyping." Has the U.N. improved so much over the past year that legitimate criticism is all of a sudden unwarranted?
