30-Day Progressive Rock Song Challenge continued... 29/30

Day 29: A song you remember from your childhood

Iron Butterfly – In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida is my pick for today.

When I was young, my friends and I spent a whole summer trying to learn how to play In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida by ear with no sheet music. We sat around, listening to it over and over, trying to pick out each part, which felt like an huge challenge at the time. It’s a song that’s as nostalgic as it is timeless.

Iron Butterfly is often credited with laying the groundwork for progressive rock, blending psychedelic rock with a more experimental sound. The extended drum solo and the instrumental sections in this song are iconic, and it’s still a classic that holds up over the decades.

What’s a song you remember from your childhood?
