Re: Royalties from Radisys DSP board
Are you saying that WIND will get to collect TWO royalties for each one of these Radisys boards??? One from Intel for IxWorks (bundled with the I960RP), and one from Radisys for VxWorks?
Wind River will get VxWorks royalties in the first version and IxWorks for the second version, but not both at the same time.
Intel supplies the chip -- What product was not ready from Intel? What was the hold-up on IxWorks?
I don't know for sure, but my guess is that Intel hasn't completely developed the specs for I2O. Wind River has been working on it for a couple of years, but I can't imagine it would take that long to implement. Phoenix had the same problem with Intel defining the specs, (probably USB and perhaps I2O), for Intel motherboards. Intel doesn't have a pressing need to finish the specs until Microsoft releases Windows 98. As I said before, Allen Benn was wrong 18 months ago when he stated that "Microsoft is jumping all over I2O." Microsoft has their own agenda that differs from Intel, Wind River, and Phoenix, and they release products on their own time.
What is your source for this information?
My source is a Radisys employee involved in the project.
So Radisys has now found the missing I2O component(s)?
The next version must be under development now for Radisys to release it in 1q98, so Intel and Wind River must have completed the I2O specs and have at least a beta implementation of IxWorks that's good enough for Radisys to use today.
The only issue of RTC Magazine that I could find online was July, and it did not have the article you referenced. Can you please summarize it?
I haven't read it, either. Radisys recommended the article to me, but I don't get the magazine. Maybe someone else on the thread is a subscriber. |
